Marty Is Different But Loved By Many..
SCENARIO:
Marty grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, with his mother and father. He is the only child, and they call him “Miracle Child.” Marty's mother had complications with Marty during her pregnancy. They did not know if Marty would survive because Marty was premature when he was born. Marty weighed 4lbs, and the doctor had to do emergency surgery.
At the age of four, Marty started to realize that he was different from the other kids. Marty's parents wanted Marty to have an everyday life, but they knew something was wrong. Marty's parents decided to take Marty to the doctor, and the doctor diagnosed Marty with autism. Once Marty's parents knew that Marty is a unique child, they started treated Marty with more special attention. They were afraid that other children would tease Marty because he was different. Marty didn't care about what people thought about him. All Marty knew, he was happy. Marty's parents admired Marty because he was brave and not afraid of the world.
Marty was a brilliant child, and it may take Marty longer to comprehend things, but he understood many things. Marty's mind was terrific. Marty could remember everything that happened in the past, present and he tries to predict the future. When Marty wants you to listen to him, he constantly repeats himself. Marty had a beautiful heart, he loves everyone, and he speaks to everyone. Marty's parents were very proud of Marty, and they were happy to have Marty as a son. Marty's teachers, students, and neighbors love Marty.
One day Marty asked his mother, “Can I have a birthday party? Mom, I want a birthday party. I want my friends to come. I will be five years old tomorrow.” Marty's mother replied, “Marty, your birthday is tomorrow. I don't know if I can have all your friends here by tomorrow. I'm sorry, Marty. I don't know if that is possible.” Marty puts his head down in disappointment and walks into his bedroom. Marty's mother felt terrible and started making phone calls to different people. She wanted her son to have the best birthday. At the same time, his father was shopping for a birthday cake and other birthday party items. They would do anything to make their son happy.
It was Marty's birthday the next day, and he was sad because he wasn't having a birthday party. His mother asked, “Why are you looking so sad, Honey? It's your birthday.” Marty looked at his mother and replied, “I'm sad because I don't have any friends. I can't have a birthday party without any friends.” Marty walks back into his bedroom and closes his door. Marty sits on his bed with his arms crossed. As Marty's father was putting the cake on the table, he looked up, and he sees people coming into the backyard. He was surprised by all the people he saw at Marty's birthday party. He called his wife in the backyard, and as she was walking towards her husband, she was so amazed that tears started coming from her eyes. She asked Marty's teacher, “What is going on?” The teacher says, “We all love Marty. He is so special to us. He is strong, and he is very loving. Marty is an inspiration, and we don't want him to be sad. He makes us happy when we are down. That is why we are all here. Marty is our friend.” Marty's parents were so happy that people see Marty as they see him. Marty's mother walked into Marty's bedroom and seen Marty on the bed. She says, “Honey, I think you should come to your birthday party. Dad and I want you to blow out the candles.” Marty looks at his mother and says, “OK, if you want me to.” Marty stands up and walks out of his bedroom with his mother holding her hand. As they went outside in the backyard, Marty saw so many people singing happy birthday to him. Marty was so excited and happy. Marty yelled, “MY FRIENDS!” Marty's parents were so overwhelmed. Marty had a memorable birthday.
As Marty became an adult, Marty still remembers his fifth birthday and talks about it to other people. He has finished college with an associate degree in child care. Marty wants to help other children who are just like him. While Marty was going to school, he worked at a grocery store as a manager and has his apartment. Marty has a girlfriend who loves him very much. Marty's parents are the proudest parents ever. They are happy that their son didn't let the world stop him, and he was strong enough to be who he suppose to be, their “Miracle Child.”
TRUTH:
When a child has autism, show them love and don't give up on them. Autism is a developmental disorder of variable severity characterized by difficulty in social interaction and communication and restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behavior.
CONCLUSION:
Just because you have a special child doesn't mean that you can't love your child. As a parent, we should love our child unconditionally. We have to realize that all children are not the same. When you have a child that is different from usual, you have to give them a little more attention and extraordinary love. Dealing with a child with autism, your child will need more patience and more understanding. It may not be your child, and you may know someone who has autism. Just take your time with them and show them that they are unique. Let them know that being different is a gift from GOD.
